Design the mold for optical parts

  • Choose gate location and flow direction to control weld lines, birefringence, vestige, and last-fill risk.
  • Use polished cavity surfaces, clean handling, appropriate vents, and a parting strategy that protects optical zones.
  • Balance cooling and avoid abrupt thickness changes that create stress, sink, warp, or haze.
  • Plan draft, ejector marks, inserts, texture, inspection lighting, and safe handling around the clear surface.

Control PMMA processing

Dry the exact grade according to the resin supplier’s guide, control residence time and melt temperature, and establish a stable fill, pack, mold-temperature, and cooling window. Inspect transmission, haze, color, surface, dimensions, stress, and assembly fit as the application requires.

What to approve

Freeze grade, color, optical zones, surface standard, gate location, measurement method, sample lighting, and acceptance criteria. Do not approve clear PMMA by appearance under one casual light source.
