Best when the part, resin, quantity, quality criteria, cycle assumptions, ownership, and maintenance plan are ready for a durable mold decision.

What changes when the volume is temporary

A short-run tool may prioritize speed, replaceable details, lower initial commitment, or a limited cavity plan. A production tool may prioritize cycle balance, service life, automation, maintenance access, spare parts, and repeatability. The right choice depends on the actual launch and demand risk; no tool type is universally cheaper or faster.

Information needed for a staged tooling recommendation

Send the current CAD and drawing, candidate resin and grade, expected quantities by phase, critical interfaces, appearance or functional requirements, launch dates, customer approval milestones, and whether the same tool must later support repeat production. Include what is still changing so the recommendation does not overstate design maturity.
