A useful quality plan converts the drawing, appearance standard, fit, function, material, and delivery requirements into checks that can be reviewed at the right project stage.

Quality checkpoints by stage

Input and material

Confirm the current drawing, resin and grade, color, material documentation, and any customer specification before production.

Tooling release

Review the approved mold design, critical features, steel or component requirements, inspection access, and maintenance considerations.

T1 or first-off

Compare filling, cooling, dimensions, appearance, fit, function, flash, sink, weld lines, and ejection with the agreed criteria.

In-process

Define the dimensions, appearance, process observations, sampling frequency, and records needed for the actual quantity and risk.

Final and packing

Complete agreed final checks, count, protection, labels, packaging, and measurement reports or records when requested and available.

Inspection starts with the requirement hierarchy

Critical-to-function dimensions should be distinguishable from reference dimensions and general appearance requirements. A drawing review can identify datums, tolerance relationships, inspection points, texture or polish areas, fit interfaces, and the evidence required for approval. If the customer has a control plan, golden sample, gauge method, or measurement format, it should be shared before the quotation is finalized.

How issues are handled

Describe

Record the part version, cavity or sample reference, defect or deviation, measurement method, and requirement affected.

Separate cause

Discuss whether the issue relates to material, mold geometry, process conditions, handling, inspection method, or an approved change.

Agree action

Confirm the correction, owner, sample or re-check needed, and the point at which customer approval is required.

04

Verify

Repeat the relevant dimensional, visual, fit, functional, or process check and retain the agreed evidence.

05

Control repeat

Carry the approved material, process, inspection, packaging, and change record into future production where applicable.

What to send for a quality review

Send the latest 2D drawing, 3D model, resin and grade, color standard, critical tolerances, surface finish or texture, fit and function criteria, planned quantity, inspection frequency, packaging requirements, and any customer reporting template. The inspection method and acceptance limits should be confirmed for the part rather than copied from a generic checklist.
