Injection mold defect analysis is strongest when each symptom is mapped to material, mold, machine, process, design, measurement, and maintenance evidence. A defect may be visible in the part while its cause is a blocked vent, worn shutoff, poor cooling, wet resin, or a measurement mistake.





Map the symptom to the cavity
- Record where the defect appears, whether it repeats by cavity, and whether it follows the flow front, weld line, ejector, gate, or cooling zone.
- Compare good and bad parts by revision, material lot, color, cycle, shift, machine, and mold condition.
- Check dimensions and appearance with a repeatable method before changing the process.
Review the mold and process
- Inspect vents, parting lines, gates, runners, inserts, cooling channels, ejectors, slides, polish, texture, lubrication, and wear.
- Verify drying, material identity, fill, pack, mold temperature, cooling, cushion, screw recovery, and alarms.
- Compare the actual process record with the approved window and identify the first time the signal changed.
Correct, verify, prevent recurrence
Contain the affected lot, preserve evidence, test the most likely cause, and record the correction. Confirm the result across a stable run and update maintenance, setup, inspection, or design controls. Polishing or increasing pressure without a causal hypothesis can hide the defect and create a new one.
